Update: Installed new BIOS…seems slightly quieter under “heavy load” than before. How is your 435MT fan noise post-update?
Dell released a recommended BIOS update today – v.1.0.12 – for the Dell Studio XPS 435MT. After months of owners complaining about fan noise, the new BIOS may finally address this issue.
Version 1.0.12 includes the following fixes/enhancements:
1.Fan Control Enhancement.
2.Fixed system can not return to last state from power lose when AC Recovery is set to “Last” in BIOS Setup.
3.Change the default boot sequences to Hard Disk, Optical Drive, floppy and Onboard NIC.
Installation instructions: Go to support.dell.com, enter your machine’s express service code, download the file, and run the executable. Done and done.

After installing this bios upgrade, I can attest to the fact that Dell has apparently found the fix to the fan noise. Mine runs very quite. Still having a problem with usb connections.
It would be nice if Dell notified it’s users of the new BBIOS release. I installed the upgrade fan is better. But I still get an Alert Message about Checkpoint D0 even after Dell replaced the Motherboard, Hard Drive, Video Card , Memorey and finally the processor.
Has anyone else had the probelm.
I am at the point of returning the unit.
hey Don, i’m getting the “Checkpoint D0″ error message of most reboots, but so far i haven’t noticed anything problematic. the only thing i’ve changed in my system is the case fan (w/ a quieter one) and added my Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium.
let me know if you have a fix… thanks!
Update on Checkpoint D0
3/20/09
In reviewing the Dell Bios under:
Boot Device Config
Hard Disk Boot Priority
I found the following
Drive 1 Hard Disk
Drive 2 HP Photosmart Printer.
I disabled the printer and so far I have not seen Checkpoint D0.
I am working with Dell on this and hopefully by this Monday it should be resolved.
Hope this helps
